This umbrella is entirely handcrafted at a fifth-generation Milanese atelier. Handmade in Italy there are 70 individual steps to make a finished piece. The tube umbrella is fitted with a metal shaft; this type of umbrella gives an elegant and slim finish. Long associated with umbrella making, the Whangee crook is the most traditional handle of them all. The Japanese cane is lightly scorched to achieve a desirable contrast that emphasises the natural beauty of the Asian grass. Whangee comes from the root of a type of Bamboo, which gains its unique appearance from the constant soil erosion on a sharp gradient; exposing it to the elements. When harvested, it is bleached, boiled and straightened and then bent into the handle attached to the shaft and frame.
